Rudolf van Niekerk was born in 1954. Drawing since a very early age, his father bought him his first oils and brushes at age nine.
His parents were involved in the arts as an author and actress and his mother did fine work in pastels and crayon. |

He was introduced to artist Anna Vorster early in his life and her work left a lasting impression.
After matriculating in 1972 and completing a year in the South African Navy he registered for a BA degree in Fine Arts at the University of Pretoria. |

He chose to major in sculpture under sculptor Mike Edwards, who became his sole inspiration at that time.
He studied at UP for three years. After working and lecturing as a model maker and draughtsman he retired as a mining rights executive in 2008. |

His passions include a true love of animals and nature, writing poetry and playing guitar. He is currently working as a full time artist and lives
in Pretoria -South Africa. |
